Swinging in my porch swing with a jungle juice, I spotted a sloth rolling along a branch—talk about surreal. The gardens brim with vibrant wildlife, including hummingbirds, making for a picturesque retreat.
The access road to the hotel is rough, which might be a turnoff for some, yet it does provide an element of privacy. Traveling for a beach suited for swimming requires a bit of a trek, which can dampen spontaneity during your stay.

The Hummingbird exceeded my expectations in every way. Betsy and Gary, the hosts, were incredibly welcoming and attentive. They arranged transport from the airport, which made our arrival seamless. My room, the King Room with Sea View, was impeccably clean with a gorgeous view of the garden and the sea. The attention to detail in the design was impressive, making it feel like a true sanctuary. Each morning started perfectly with a delicious breakfast served at the table, featuring a variety of fresh options that changed daily. I loved sipping coffee while hummingbirds flitted around outside. The lush gardens were filled with wildlife, adding to the experience. However, the access road to the lodge was quite rough. While it added to the sense of adventure, it may be challenging for some. The restaurant menu offered fantastic meals each night, with local flavors and beautiful presentation. I appreciated the laid-back atmosphere, though I noticed the sound of waves could be louder than expected at times. Overall, the combination of natural beauty, exceptional hospitality, and culinary delights created a memorable getaway.
